The Saint Elizabeth of Hungary ADULT Choir is composed of 25-35 persons who lead an exciting and varied repertoire of motets, anthems, masses, hymns and chants at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday liturgy in Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church and for other principal liturgies of the church.
The Chanel Choir season is from September through the great feast of Pentecost, which usually falls in early June. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in Room 109 of Pius X Hall. Some additional rehearsals may be required to prepare special liturgies and programs. The Choir begins warm-ups at 10:00 a.m. for Sunday Masses. Membership is open to those of high school age and older who enjoy singing the choral literature of the church from past to present.
An informal audition is required.
Our ADULT Choir has enjoyed European and domestic pilgrimages/concert tours.
In 1987 the choir traveled to Italy to perform in Florence at the Church of All Saints, in Assisi at Saint Francis Basilica, and at Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome for a papal liturgy with Pope John Paul II. They also performed a concert at Saint Ignatio in Rome.
In 1989 the choir traveled to Washington DC to perform a pre-service concert. They were the primary choir at the Saturday evening Mass.
In 1992, for the occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of our parish, the choir led a pilgrimage tour with our parishioners to Germany and Austria, visiting Wartburg and Marburg, the castles of our patron, Elizabeth of Hungary, where they held a prayer service at her tomb in Elisabethkirche in Marburg. The choir sang at Saint Stephen Cathedral in Passau, Germany and performed a concert in Malthesekirch in Vienna, Austria. They also sang a liturgy at Stiftkirche Saint Peter in Saltzburg, where Mozart is said to have written and performed his first religious motet, the famous "Ave Verum."
In 2005, after a long travel hiatus, the choir once again led our parishioners on a pilgrimage through Italy to mark the occasion of Father Roy Conley's retirement after 21 years of service to the Saint Elizabeth of Hungary community. The choir performed liturgies at the Basilica of Saint Mark in Venice, performed an informal concert at Saint Vitale in Ravenna, and again sang Mass at Saint Francis Basilica in Assisi and the Basilica of Saint Peter's in Rome.
In 2007, the choir, joined by Father Roy Conely, led a pilgrimage through Ireland. The choir preformed the liturgies at Our Lady of Knock, Saint Mary's Pro-Cathedral, and Killarney Cathedral. In traveling from town to town, the choir also softly sang songs of praise to God in Galaway Cathedral and at Kylemore Abbey.
