V. We adore You, O Christ, and we Praise You.
R. Because by Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world.
Let us Pray:
O God, Who for the redemption of the world was pleased to be born in a stable and to die upon a cross and by Your holy sufferings which we, Your unworthy servants, call to mind: by Your Holy Cross and by Your death, deliver us from the pains of hell, and grant to conduct us to the place where you did the good thief who was crucified with you, You, who live and reign eternally in heaven. Amen.
Oh, Adorable Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, You have suffered death on the Cross for our sins.
Oh, Holy Cross of Jesus, be my true light!
Oh, Holy Cross, fill my soul with good thoughts.
Oh, Holy Cross, ward off from me all things that are evil.
Oh, Holy Cross, ward off from me all dangers and deaths and give me life everlasting!
Oh, Crucified Jesus of Nazareth, have mercy on me now and forever.
In honor of the Precious Blood of Jesus, His death, resurrection and ascension which leads to everlasting life; true as Jesus was born on Christmas Day; true as Jesus was crucified on Good Friday; true as Joseph and Nicodemus took Jesus down from the cross and buried Him; true as Jesus ascended into Heaven; may He preserve me from my enemies visible and invisible forever.
Oh, Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me! Mary and Joseph pray for me.
Lord Jesus Christ, through Your suffering the Cross grant me strength to bear my Cross without fear or dread and give me the grace that I may follow You. Amen.
St. Andrew the Apostle was martyred. He died nailed to a cross. His desire to be identified with Christ was so great that when he was being led toward the place of his martyrdom, and saw his own cross in the distance, he cried:
“O good Cross, made beautiful by the body of the Lord:
long have I desired you, ardently have I loved you,
unceasingly have I sought you out;
and now you are ready for my eager soul.
Receive me from among men and restore me to my Master,
so that he-who, by means of you,
in dying redeemed me-may receive me.
Amen.”
My Lord Jesus Christ,
You made this journey to die for me with love unutterable,
and I have so many times unworthily abandoned You;
but now I love You with my whole heart,
and because I love You,
I repent sincerely for having ever offended You.
Pardon me, my God,
and permit me to accompany You on this journey.
You go to die for love of me;
I wish also, my beloved Redeemer,
to die for love of You.
My Jesus, I will live and die always united to You.
After praying the Stations, pray:
5 Our Father...
5 Hail Mary...
5 Glory Be...
in honor of the Passion of Jesus Christ,
and once for the intention of the holy Father.
My exalted Lord,
I turn to You in my need
and with the utmost faith
in Your divine power to save.
Please give me the grace I need
to fully embrace every cross in my life
with hope and faith in You.
Please transform my crosses
so that You will be exalted through them
and so that they will become an instrument
of Your glory and grace.
Jesus, I trust in You.
Amen.
Morning Prayer:
Father God, how can we thank you enough for the sacrifice of Your Son on the cross of Calvary? Your plan of salvation is beautiful, and we rejoice that You’ve made a way for us to be in a relationship with You and to live with You forever. How we long for the world to know the truth and to participate in the redemption of Jesus Christ! We intercede this morning for all who don’t know You that they may hear the gospel and that their hearts would be fertile soil to receive the truth of Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
Evening Prayer:
Father God, tonight we are awed at the mystery of Christ’s death and all that He accomplished for us on the cross. We are humbled at such amazing love that gives all so that we might live. Jesus announced on the cross that “It is finished” and so tonight, we rest in faith that His sacrifice covers our sins. His grace is sufficient for us and for that we are truly thankful. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Take up your cross, the Savior said, If you would my disciple be; Deny yourself, the world forsake, And humbly follow after me. |
Take up your cross, be not ashamed! Let not disgrace your spirit fill! For God himself endured to die Upon a cross, on Calvary's hill. |
Take up your cross, which gives you strength, Which makes your trembling spirit brave: 'Twill guide you to a better home And lead to vict'ry o'er the grave. |
Take up your cross, and follow Christ, Nor think till death to lay it down; For only they who bear the cross May hope to wear the glorious crown. |
Refrain: Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim, Till all the world adore His sacred name. |
|
Led on their way by this triumphant sign, The hosts of God in conquering ranks combine. |
Each newborn servant of the Crucified Bears on the brow the seal of Him who died. |
O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree, As Thou hast promised, draw the world to Thee. |
So shall our song of triumph ever be: Praise to the Crucified for victory. |
O Cross of Christ, immortal tree On which our Saviour died, The world is sheltered by your arms That bore the Crucified. |
From bitter death and barren wood the tree of life is made; Its branches bear unfailing fruit And leaves that never fade. |
O faithful Cross, you stand unmoved While ages run their course; Foundation of the universe, Creation’s minding force. |
Give glory to the risen Christ And to his Cross give praise, The sign of God's unfailing love, The hope of all our days. |
Refrain: Freedom can be found, laden down, Under the weight of the wood. |
|
Lord let me walk that lonely road with you, Under the weight of the wood. Lord let me walk that last mile in your shoes, Under the weight of the wood. |
Lord let me cool your lips baked like clay, Under the weight of the wood. Dried up like rain on a hot and dusty day, Under the weight of the wood. |
They gave you gall and sour wine for your food, Under the weight of the wood. Father forgive them; they don’t know what they do, Under the weight of the wood. |
Lord, must the journey always end this way, Under the weight of the wood? How many times have we nailed you up today, Under the weight of the wood? |
When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. |
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. |
See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? |
His dying crimson, like a robe, Spreads o’er His body on the tree; Then I am dead to all the globe, And all the globe is dead to me. |
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
